Thank you for your interest in auditioning for The Call!

We are overjoyed to start the journey of presenting this play, and look forward to cultivating a cast of talented performers to bring this original work to life. This play is being independently produced and directed by a local actress/theatremaker, alongside a team of incredible local talents who strive to actively develop, love, and create original work right here in the heart of Columbus, Ohio.

REHEARSALS

A read thru and a couple of table work rehearsals will begin in mid-late November.
Blocking rehearsals will run December/January.

Exact rehearsal dates and times of weekly rehearsals will be determined by cast availability, however, we expect to rehearse together at least 3 days a week once blocking begins.

Performances run January 22-25, 2026

All roles will be paid.

PLOT SUMMARY

1995. McCall, Idaho. Something's about to happen.

After the freak & accidental death of his brother, Danny Bowen has lived a reclusive life within the four walls of his own living room for the past three years. Isolating himself from the outside world, he leads a very lonely & delusional existence, his only company being three taxidermist animal head trophies from his "past life" as an avid hunter. But, when an unassuming visitor arrives, unknowingly challenging Danny's life as he knows it, the memories of his haunted past begin to materialize once more... revealing just what led up to the fateful incident that changed his life forever.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

Please note: All genders, identities, ethnicities, and talents of all abilities are encouraged to audition. Casting will be considered without regard to disability, race, age, color, national origin, sexual orientation or gender identity, or any other basis prohibited by law.

Though roles may be identified as "male-presenting" or "female-presenting", all identities are welcome.

DANNY BOWEN (Now, 30) - Reclusive and guarded. Lonely and lost. Something is about to happen.

CALVIN SOTHERBEE (22) - A Mormon missionary with a good heart and a good ear. Lighthearted and understanding. An unexpected visitor.

ELSON BOWEN (54) - Danny's Father. Hardened. Demanding. Unrelenting. Imparts his own expectations of his sons without mercy.

GREG BOWEN (Was in late 20's, Now 30) - Danny's dependable older brother. Warm, enthusiastic, and down for pretty much anything. Danny's best friend.

DEIRDRE DELPHIN (22) - A young woman Danny falls in love with. Organically beautiful with a healing spirit. Independent. Divinely connected to the land and to herself. Sensual and pure, all at once.

WHAT TO PREPARE

Please prepare a monologue/prose piece of your choosing that showcases you best and speaks to you most. Monologues from plays, films, poetry, and other written works are all welcome! We do ask that you keep your pieces under 2 minutes so we can be mindful of time.

If you attend in-person auditions, we will also read some sides from the play. Those who sign up will be sent an email closer to the audition date with the script/sides, so they can peruse at their leisure in advance.

Printed copies of the sides will also be provided at in-person auditions.

Will there be callbacks?

Potentially! If we need to see more from the talent that auditioned, we will reach out via email/phone the evening of October 4th, once auditions have concluded.

Do you accept video audition submissions?

Absolutely. If you are unable to attend in-person auditions, please feel free to submit a video either along with this audition form (at the bottom of the page), or, via email.
Video submissions will be accepted until Friday, October 3, 2025 at midnight.

If needed, we will reach back out to those who submitted video auditions, and ask for readings of sides/monologues from the play.
